    Mary Steenburgen, the Arkansas native actress, has added her voice to those opposing HB 1228, the bill aimed at preserving legal discrimination against gay people under the pretext of religious freedom. It would create untold other complications for all sorts of government activities to give people a religious excuse to avoid the law.

  • Back to school, for lunch

    Fayetteville Public Schools offer an almost overwhelming number of choices for lunch. Though the menu seems slanted towards processed meats such as hot dogs and chicken nuggets, they are baked, not fried, and use low-fat meats.

TKAYE, I've lived in NWA my whole life. I do know my facts. Yes, some folks do move here and love it. Most of them, I'd assume, are white and Christian (and straight). So Arkansas isn't such a bad place. Those of us who don't fall into one or more of those categories, life here isn't so great. Fayetteville is the closest to a "sanctuary city" for us not white straight Christians, but we still live in a state and often have to work for companies who do not respect our civil rights. Anyone who has been paying attention to the news coming out of Arknasas will see that.
