Re: “LR superintendent candidate withdraws from Wisconsin job search

I have lived in Springfield, IL the past 7 years after retiring from a 35 year career as a Newspapers executive. I have lived in major Metro cities and frankly, I am embarrassed by our communities media coverage of Dr. Walter Milton. I do not feel their coverage of the school board or Dr. Milton personally, has been fair. My personal feeling is they are trying to evoke emotion to sell more newspapers and gain more audience.

My husband and I lived next door to Dr. and Mrs. Milton until recently. They were wonderful neighbors and great parents (their children are the most polite and respectful youngsters, I have seen).

Our children are grown, but two of them have chosen the teaching/coaching profession. Our daughter-in-law teaches in District 186 (at one of the smallest elementary schools). She would often tell me how Dr. Milton would tour the school and take time to talk with teachers and students, at length, to learn how to improve the educational experience.

Dr. Milton has done many great things for the educational system and our community. It's a shame the superintendent's job is so thankless, especially in these difficult economic times.
