Re: “The Arkansas Medicaid verification mess: what went wrong

I am disabled and waiting to meet with the disability judge. The insurance through my job of 10 years canceled on October 2015 although I left my job in June. I wanted to apply for the Affordable Care Act insurance before the end of October but was told I had to wait until my insurance expired before I could apply. I applied in November and reported no income. I was sent a letter stating I needed to verify that. How can I verify no income when I have none? I was told to write a letter stating I had no income. Didn't I already state that in the application?! Anyway, I did write the letter and sent it in. I followed up in December since I still had no coverage and was told by DHS that all they can see is that my letter was received but they could not answer any other questions since I applied through the private option and not through the marketplace. It's January and I still have no coverage. I am almost out of my blood pressure meds, chronic pain meds and as I type this my right upper arm and shoulder is in excruciating pain but I cannot be seen by medical professionals because I have no coverage. What am I supposed to do? Have a stroke, a heart attack, die?! I've been responsible all of my life and have had jobs. I haven't lived off the system or pretended I'm unable to work. I've had health issues for many many years but continued to work through them. Now I've been denied disability and can't get health coverage. A part of qualifying for disability is to be under a physician's care. I have a primary care physician, a cardiologist, a spinal care physician for chronic pain and a rheumatologist for a very rare autoimmune disease and I cannot see anyone because I have no healthcare coverage! This is insane! I followed the rules and played their games. I've worked several jobs, kept insurance coverage, responded to any correspondences I may have received. I'm supposed to wait on healthcare and wait on disability whenever they DECIDE to do THEIR jobs! I'm so sick of this world and its' rules!
