Re: “Broadway Bridge is falling down

Sound Policy: Or it could be hat the I-30 bridge carries a whole lot more traffic -- especially semi trucks -- than the Broadway bridge, and has been subject to more wear and tear.

Re: “Three shot in robbery at Asher Avenue restaurant

Kitchen Express is one of the best, if not the best, home-cooking restaurants in Little Rock. The people who work there are universally lovely. I hope this incident doesn't have lasting repercussions on their business by scaring folks away.

Re: “UPDATE: Two dead in I-430 crash

Back when I was editing Arkansas Money & Politics, I was looking for an agriculture writer and someone recommended Gary DiGiuseppe. I found him not only to be knowledgable and good writer, he also clearly cared about the issues and the people who were affected by them. He was a good guy. This is an incredible tragedy. I'm holding his family and friends in my heart.

Re: “Another casino measure lurking in 2016

Back in the '90s, when there were several efforts to get casino ballot items in front of voters, I remember interviewing some gentleman (maybe a legislator or former legislator?) whose petition would enshrine not only legalize casino gambling, but IIRC it established him as the director of a state casino commission, made it hereditary within his family, and exempted it from the FOIA. When I asked why the public didn't need to be able to examine the commission's records he declared, "Because I am incorruptible."

Anyone else remember this? Am I remembering the details right?

Re: “Historic district apartment project deferred

Gonna speak up on behalf of my friend Jenifer Carman here. It is doubtful the city has a more dedicated, in-up-to-her-elbows preservationist the she; it's also doubtful you'll find one more ethical; nor one more passionate about doing well for the whole of the city's historic housing stock. If Jenifer has recused, it's because she knows she cannot, in good faith, participate in the vote; but if she's still raising her voice as a resident and preservationist, then it's because she knows about the topic and her opinions are worth listening to. I don't see those two actions as mutually exclusive.
