Re: “Among the last words from Kenneth Williams: 'Finger Lickin' Good Fried Chicken'

Hmmm. The freelancer I know who wears one of the two names supplied has more sense. I think. Actually, suspicious me suspects a scam of some sort. It will be interesting if someone manages to scratch through the duff and finds the seed.

Re: “One killed, another wounded in alleged robbery attempt

Now how is it that a 17 year old has a gun, you ask? Could easily have been TWO guns had Mr. Haidara had been less fortunate.
I have a relative who has gone the whole route, buying a gun, taking the required course and getting a permit. She carries the thing in her purse. Now what's gonna happen if she's held up?
And even if she had a chance to defend herself, I've seen her react to a relatively minor emergency. Throwing both hands up to her face and screaming ain't gonna get it.
Even if that were me -- I'm fairly calm and clear-thinking in emergency situations -- most likely the assailant would get my gun since I don't walk down the street, gun in hand daring anyone to accost me. (BTW, I rarely carry a gun. My favorite, the shotgun, is a little conspicuous.)

Re: “San Francisco judge blocks executive order defunding "sanctuary cities"

Not "cities", golfer. There was some discussion of Title IX funds and the possibility that schools which didn't adhere to federal standards MIGHT face lawsuits and the possibility of judgments against them.

Peruse the NYTimes round-up on the subject: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/24/us/tran…

To be fair, you have to admit ANY school, or for that matter any entity, faces such a possibility, and for virtually any reason. All that is needed is a plaintiff and an attorney.
Further, I don't recall, nor can I find any indication of unilateral action on this issue by any federal entity of the Obama administration, presidential or otherwise.
The primary difference between the Obama and Trump is that Obama understands the rule of law while Trump understands the rule of Trump.

Re: “Later today: More on the matter of Judge Wendell Griffen

An aside to the primary topic of judge shopping (I think that's the right term):
Is the "judicial disciplinary committee" that will consider Judge Griffen's situation the same one that shook their collective fingers at "the drunk judge" and told him he shouldn't do that again?
Let's see. On one hand, we have a public expression of a firmly held belief, one allowed by the Constitution of the United States as I recall. On the other, we have a judge with a drunk driving conviction and assorted other related offenses, a number of which were forgiven, shall we say, before his court appearance.
Hmmm.

Re: “Four years after installation, solar panels are connected to VA

Shhhh. Don't let Empor... er, President Trump hear about this. He may throw a few folks to the dogs (or was it hogs?) for undercutting a good old coal fired utility.
Heard the latest from China? To get rid of the smog that often blankets much of the eastern portion of that country, they may refine coal into natural gas for home heating and cooking uses.
Now that's an idea that will prevent premature deaths due to excessive pollution. Great idea, right?
Just ignore those naysayers who point out the process of making and using gas made from coal will produce twice the amount of carbon dioxide, a major boogeyman in the production of greenhouse gases.
Eh ... who cares if it gets gets positively toasty around here? Uhm, you haven't invested in a coastal getaway, have you?

Re: “Judicial Discipline admonishes Judge over DWI, reckless driving conviction

"Committing a violation of the law, however slight ..."

HOWEVER SLIGHT? Seems there's laws and then there's "laws".
Color me surprised that the police officers involved weren't admonished for arresting the poor fella, er, judge. Or were they?

Re: “Trump's threats to Obamacare subsidies are bad political news for...Republicans

Oops, sorry. A sure-she's-not-loved-enough-cat walked across the keyboard and I thought she just wiped everything out rather than posting it.
What I intended to add? As far as I know, Trump hasn't ordered any specific killings, at least intentionally.
BTW, the same cat is now working over my arms, I guess trying to tell me I didn't get clean enough when I showered.
