Re: “State issue rules on religion in publicly-financed daycare

Wow, what trauma all these commenters must have suffered at the hands of some religious, but unChristlike, teacher or leader somewhere in the dark recesses of their childhoods! It seems the only explanation for such venom.
For all the ulterior motives and political dealings you would like to assign to this, it's really not that complicated. First of all, I agree with the constitutional separation of church and state because God doesn't need or want govts forcing religion on people. He's into people coming to know Him on their own free will. With that said, I think it's poppycock that federal dollars have strings like this attached to them - it's basically what's wrong with education today. Local school districts, and in this case, preschools, should be able to do what makes sense in their communities. One size doesn't fit all. Note that no parents of these programs have launched any complaints. This hornets nest is being stirred up by a group in Washington DC. And in fact, we parents - yes, I am one - are outraged that yet more local control is lost in deference to special interests that don't even exist in our case. Why can't the rules be more common sensical and site-sensitive like saying providers have to get parents' permission for any kind of religious instruction? This puts parents in control of their children, not some special interest group via the government. I wish Americans would follow this concept of legislating to the exceptions to its logical conclusion. In a room where 98 people agree on one thing and two disagree, freedom belongs to the two and the 98 have limits imposed on them. Not sure what you call that, but it is NOT democracy.
