Re: “The third-party threat

I am constantly shocked at these ridiculous arguments and blind allegiance that Liberals have for the two party system. The two party system was never meant to be an integral part of the democratic process. Elections are meant to be free and open to people and parties of all political persuasions. Democrats and Republicans collude to maintain a monopoly on power that inevitably leads to disenfranchising large sectors of the populations and inaction on important issues. It is practically impossible for a third party to gain a foot hold in the political system because of the barriers that the Democrats and Republicans place.

Elections are meant to give the public a choice and to hold politicians accountable. Al Gore lost in 2000 because he failed to win enough votes in Florida. Its ridiculous to suggest that Nader voters would have voted for Gore, and that he cost him the election. Bush also took votes away from Gore. By your logic,we shouldn't bother to have elections at all. let's just anoint Lincoln the winner and avoid the costly spectacle of holding elections at all. Max Brantley and Liberals put themselves in the same category as Joseph Stalin when they use these arguments.
