IF LRSD had planned ahead and built new middle schools as the city grew west I doubt charter schools would be growing quite as fast as they are; especially at the middle grades level. Families in west Little Rock have three choices for public education for their 6th -8th graders, Henderson a LRSD school or Robinson a PCSSD school. 20 years ago I had a night class through UALR that met in Henderson. At that time it was a dismal, dark, utilitarian facility. I can only imagine what it's like today.
The fact is if the stake holders/parents didn't feel a need for an alternative then charter schools wouldn't be growing by leaps and bounds. A group tried to get a charter started in Conway. It didn't last through its inaugural year. People in Conway don't feel a need for alternatives to their public schools.
