Re: “UCA: Higher education or hotel?”
UCA just doesn't get it on several levels:
1) Given their chronic lack of judgment on financial matters, did they think twice about what message they're sending by spending $11K on this service? And yes, I work for state government and understand restrictions on what you can spend money on. Surely there are better ways to help students become increasingly connected.
2) Most students I know have their cell phone stuck to their body and don't need to rely on a watch. They know how to turn the alarm on and off. They also have calendars that remind them about their appointments.
3) Part of being in college should be to grow up, become responsible, and prepare for the workplace. As someone who hires college interns and recent grads, I can tell you the ones who succeed early on are those who get to work on time, keep their appointments, and don't rely on anyone else to do either one of these things for them. By treating students like babies, UCA is disrespecting the students, their parents, and future employers.
