The FBI/Police "plot hole" you're referring to is addressed in the cemetery scene in the middle of the movie when the drifter asks Kyle if he was with "those police" that were looking for "that missing girl". I tend to appreciate when movies don't beat a plot point over the head, especially one that means so little, like one in a movie about a town of people COVERING UP murders.. And a killer can slip through the cracks. Does the ZODIAC ring a bell? Why did Jason Vorhees not get arrested? Get real.

But as you said, so matter-of-factly, I wasn't interested in making "great art" (at least by your standards.. which I don't identify with.. art is subjective, anyway) -- I was interested in telling a story. I told my story and left room for more. Just because you didn't connect the dots doesn't mean my film has holes.
