Re: “Tom Cotton blistered for lying for Trump; silence of GOP politicians also made statements yesterday

I'm not usually a fan of Lindsey Graham, but I have to applaud his clear memory...

Re: “NLRPD releases footage of officer shooting Charles Smith; say officers had no choice but to return fire

Just a few posts ago, our dear Governor declared that open carry was the law of the land. Now just a few post later, a teen is being blamed for his death because he was carrying a gun.
Did it make him feel invincible, Jim? Dunno. I'll offer that the 50-something to 70-something white folks in my concealed carry class were almost gleeful about how much more fortified they would be once they had that card and their piece. During testing, these folks were some of the worst shots I've ever seen. I hope that none of them carry on a regular basis.

Re: “Teen fatally shot by police in North Little Rock

Is it common practice for NLRPD to pat down drivers for routine traffic stops? Nothing about this stop or further activities seems legit. The officer may well not have planned on killing a teen, but did a lot of things during that stop to lead to it.
Yes, being a patrol officer is hard. Yes, it's dangerous. Yes, lots of people use the cover of darkness for not fabulous activities. All that. HOWEVER. If you choose to be a public servant of the law enforcement kind, you are charged with upholding your duty while fully knowing the dangers.

Re: “Trump abandons voter fraud commission

Maxifer, the some of the data that was included, "names, addresses, **phone numbers**, **e-mail addresses**, birth dates, voting history**, and the **last four digits of Social Security numbers**" is NOT typically included in a publicly viewable record. I just checked what the votepulaski.net site will return and none of that is provided.

Incidentally, the last 4 of your SSN are the only 4 unique to you. They need MORE protection, not less, than is normally given.

Re: “Trump abandons voter fraud commission

What will happen to all the data that was collected? Will it be shredded? Hard drives degaussed? Or will it be "repurposed" for another "research project"?

Re: “Open line

Indeed Cato and Jim (re: farm subsidies). I'll try to avoid the lightening strikes when I go home for the Family Christmas. I'll be in a room full of farmers and retired teachers, and a retired mailman who ALL voted for the current president. I'm sure none of them would consider themselves as "getting handouts", even Mom EY who has been drawing teacher retirement for longer than she actually WAS a teacher.

Re: “Truth in Virginia political ad hurts Republican sensibililties

As a Southerner, that is absolutely how I see a lot of my neighbors. It has been buried under a veneer of politeness, but over the past few years, that has thinned and cracked. Glimpses of it beam out more frequently. It's often covered back up with reflective tape. Protests aren't about injustice, they're disrespectful. Statues and flags aren't racist emblems, they're historic. The problem isn't the ugliness underneath, but the meaning assigned by those who "just don't understand".
