Re: “Ballot counting: Pulaski and Garland counties will obey law even if Mark Martin won't

Is Garland County following the law? One of the polling places is the "re-elected" mayor's husband's church. How is that even close to being OK?

Re: “Happy to see the president in Arkansas

The president did his job ... it's what we pay him to do. Sorry if I'm less than enthusiastic about his visit. Of course he came to Arkansas -- we were devastated by a tornado. It's what presidents are supposed to do. Yawn. Next story, please.

Re: “Hot Springs lawyer Andi Davis, who figured in Dustin McDaniel decision to drop out of governor's race, arrested in Hot Springs

You can shoot someone in the back in Garland County, but, by all means, don't dare to steal an enclosed trailer ...

Re: “Morning notes: Oaklawn expansion, school elections, Tim Griffin protest

Can't say I'm surprised that Mayor Carney abstained from the vote last night ... but it seems a cowardly way to handle herself. Either you're against the expansion and vote NO or you're for it and vote YES. Supposed to be 250 jobs available because of the expansion. That's a huge plus for Hot Springs. Odd that a mayor who represents the entire city would be so lukewarm about it.

On another note ... I often wonder how many of the folks who attend the Hispanic church services at Pastor Carney's church work for Oaklawn or for folks associated with Oaklawn? Hmmmmm, guess that money on the collection plate is green one way or the other. But she's likely to abstain on that discussion, too.

Re: “UPDATED: Shoffner charged with pie-box delivery of kickbacks from securities salesman; released after hearing

"The Arkansas Republican Party has, naturally, called for Shoffner's resignation."

Well, naturally, shouldn't everyone?

Re: “Garland County taliban's war on tourism continues

And once again this group of extremists fires a lame volley at the folks they can't seem to control. Solution? Why, hire an "expert" from your own group to share "facts" (LOL) that dispute the other guys' numbers. And the outcome? Hot Springs as a whole suffers due to bad press. Tourists again feel uninvited. It's ludicrious. And hurtful to our City. Shame on those who are participating. Shame on those who might actually believe them/take them seriously (are people truly that stupid??). And shame, shame on the guy doing the counting. Anything for a buck, right?

Re: “Hot Springs mayor defeats Magic Springs alcohol permit

Couple of points ... working with those who suffer substance abuse yet her son sells alcoholic beverages in his restaurant ... guess alcoholics can't frequent the restaurant, right? It would be toooooo uncomfortable. Or is it ok as long as her family members profit from the sale of booze? I believe you have to live what you preach.

Second point ... my understanding is that Madame Mayor strongly supports the Tea Party. Isn't that the party of personal responsiblity not government intervention? Those recovering addicts should take personal responsibility ... if being around those who drink is too difficult -- don't go there. Why punish the rest who have no addiction issues? You can't pick and choose which issues the government intervenes on ... either you want government control or you don't.

I suggest she get off her moral high horse. Something doesn't smell right ... methinks her horse's stall needs cleaning ...
