Re: “Dumas: The truth about guns

This may surprise you: I'm a Democrat, vote liberal on principle, am vegetarian, non-violent, and Buddhist. And I totally support the 2nd Amendment and our right to own guns, even semi-automatic rifles with large capacity magazines. I several. I shoot for sport, just targets, but I also believe that what we see around us is temporary and as everything changes (there's the Buddhist influence) we may not recognize the world we live in. I own guns because some day--maybe not in my life time, but maybe my kids'--things may be topsy-turvy and I would want my kids to have the means to protect themselves from whatever strange political force enters the land. Or consider if America becomes poor and decrepit. It could happen. Perhaps a stronger country invades and wants to clear the land of our people to make way for theirs. Maybe in 100 years or more. Don't know. I want to just be prepared and have the option for my family to protect themselves. You know, I read an article that not long ago in Syria, a small team of government-sponsored militia members entered a home, where huddled were four generations of a family; infants all the way up to great grandma. The militia members slaughtered the entire family--all four generations right there. Gone. How tragic. Don't say it couldn't happen here. Change is constant and who knows where the winds will blow this country one day.
