Re: “New Mexico legislature outlaws corporal punishment

I was a victim of corporal punishment from grades 1 through 5, at Barling Elementary School from 1974-1980; the teachers were abusive and used corporal punishment as a shield to justify its use..while the truth is, they used it on boys whenever they were angry! ..or when they were anger at the kid's parents...the swats were done a full power on little children..and many of the kids beaten were from abusive homes or where disabled...the only kids who did not get paddled where those who came from out of state...those parents had a functioning brain they typed out a letter forbidding corporal punishment on their child...unless they wanted a lawsuit...too bad my dad was not that smart...;-(...oh, I forgot, he was from Arkansas..nevermind!

Re: “Bill to end school corporal punishment

I am glad that corporal punishment is now seen as negative..and should be should have been banned 40 or 50 years is barbaric, uncivilized, an excuse to physically abuse children and has never been shown to be effective at all in correcting behaviour..even when it was used for that purpose...I , unfortunately, was born and raised in Arkansas; went to Barling Elementary School from 1974-1980...I was paddled 9 different occasions and two of those were in "mass paddlings"...(clearly illegal)..and none of the paddlings I deserved..and some I never knew why I was being paddled and others were for "minor infractions"...the teachers would constantly threaten the students and abuse them..I was under constant stress and anxiety because of it..after I graduated from college..I moved out of Arkansas and moved west..where it was more civil and banning corporal punishment, Arkansas will greatly improve their educational is about time...but better late than never!..
