Re: “Wolves on the prowl in Missouri, Yell County?

My first red wolf sighting was around 1964 in Howell county Missouri. My latest was today 02/07/14 in Ozark county. I have seen maybe a dozen in between including two road kills next to my property in Howell county. Having a den of coyotes next door I know the difference in both appearance and sound. The yapping of a family of coyotes sounds nothing like the howl of a wolf, which I do hear occasionally though not often. I learned to ignore the snickers of self proclaimed experts in 1956 when my brother and I tried to tell people about the black panther we saw at our pond one morning. We were laughed off as a couple little kids with big eyes. Well, they can laugh at the four inch wide tracks left by the tawny brown long tailed cat which crossed my driveway 50 feet from my house too. Anyway, red wolves have been here at least 60 years, and big cats have always been around.
