Re: “Lawmakers consider delivering blow to school funding

Education funding must be held in check. In addition to state funding school districts routinely increase their funding by increasing school millages for long periods, thirty years, and then come back and ask for more. The result is some districts have an abundance of money and ornate facilities and others are poor as church mice. The system is broken and only the legislature can fix it. Until it is fixed "poor districts" will remain poor to very poor and wealthy districts will have all the bells and whistles. Another thing to look at is the state laws on the little clause that says "and for other school purposes" in the school bond issue wording; it is little more than a blank check for the districts. In reference to that clause the schools will spend the money for everything, but education with the result facilities become larger and more ornate and the school puts in programs primarily for the elite or better students (to enhance the school's image) and those less fortunate that need the most help are left needing better educations.

Lastly it is always comical that we must do everything for the children, which is always the big selling point, but no one appears concerned about how tax increases and unrestrained inflationary adjustments affect taxpayers. One only has to look at the minimal increase Social Securing recipients will receive 2017, 0.3%.
