Re: “Law officer one of two wounded in Searcy County bakery confrontation

I went to a meeting six years ago in Leslie. The John Birch Society was there; so was that Arkansas nativist group. Those folks--I mean all the folks in Leslie--are scary.

Re: “Tea Party: Victims?

I am not a troll, wannabee. I post here fairly frequently. I was referring to your earlier guessing game about how high the crowd estimates would get from the organizers. That said, I find this a surprisingly hostile and intolerant place. I've lived here for nine years, and I find a lot of the comments here to be rude and unwelcoming.

Re: “Tea Party: Victims?

Dave Elswick says "marshalls" have estimated the crowd at 330,000. So you guys were all way too low.

Re: “Bad eggs and Arkansas

I spent ten years in Iowa, and was not surprised to find Jack DeKoster's firm is involved in this. He has a long and undistinguished history of cutting corners to make his megahog and egg operations more profitable. Hopefully, they'll find a smoking gun like they did with the peanut guy in Georgia who emailed his managers to sell product that had tested positive for salmonella.

Re: “The coming GOP storm

Most good pollers, eLwood, have test questions to separate out those respondents who are just funnin' them by misstating for whom they will vote. It's why the so-called Bradley Effect is actually just indicative of a poor poller. Ras has been leaning GOP, and some say trying to influence races that no one else is polling, but he is still pretty good at what he does.

How about "Nashville Sneaks in, gets Fayetteville Down"?

Re: “The spat on the hat UPDATE

I don't see that there's anything wrong with this thread being the longest of the day, because it covers a lot of territory. It's not about sports. It's about the perceived arrogance of UA, the only show in town, using fear that it will deny privilege to get someone fired. It's about whether a state institution can select who will attend its public events. It's about journalistic propriety. It's not just a lady and a ballclub, just like the kid who wouldn't recite the Pledge wasn't about that kid and school discipline. It was a microcosm for what this country is about.
