The Ted Ludwig Jazz Trio holds it down at the Afterthought, as it does every week, 9 p.m., $2. Robert Abbott, lead singer for Nasty Abbott, hosts an open mic night at Bogie's/Counterpoint, 8:30 p.m., free. Longtime local DJ Tommy Smith gets roasted and toasted at the Peabody in a benefit for Big Brothers and Sisters, 6 p.m., $150-$250.

FRIDAY 8/31

Go Fast has slowed its pace in recent years, but the local rockers can still turn it up and turn it out. They play Midtown, 12:30 a.m., $5. North Little Rock's Gloryland Mass Choir records at Windsong Performing Arts Center during a live concert, 7 p.m., $15 adv./$20 d.o.s. Local party band Tragikly White is at West End, 10 p.m., $5. Piano man William Staggers is at the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $5. Springdale's Eoff Brothers, a young, promising blues act, plays Cajun's. Local rockers Damn Bullets play at a fund-raiser for the Beacon of Peace and Hope at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum in North Little Rock, 7 p.m., $25. Tennessee Williams' “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” continues at the Weekend Theater, 7:30 p.m., $14.

SATURDAY 9/1

The Gloryland Mass Choir returns to Windsong for its second night of live recording, 7 p.m., $15 adv./$20 d.o.s. Jackson, Miss., alt-country outfit Goodman County plays White Water with Steve Whiteaker, 9 p.m., $5. Popular cover band the Gettys performs at West End, 10 p.m., $5. Dave McRoberts and Justin Sane DJ at Discovery, midnight. Paul Thorn, a singer/songwriter from Tupelo, Miss., comes to Sticky Fingerz, 9 p.m., $15. “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” shows again at the Weekend Theater, 7:30 p.m., $14. The Hogs kick off their season in Fayetteville by, we hope, walking all over Troy, 6 p.m. No TV.

TUESDAY 9/4

Central Arkansas's favorite blue-eyed soulman Big John Miller is at the Afterthought with pianist Steve Winter, 8 p.m., free. Hugely popular local young pop-punk band School Boy Humor plays Juanita's, 9 p.m., $7. Austin, Texas, singer/songwriter Nathan Singleton and his backup, Sideshow Tragedy, come to White Water Tavern, 10 p.m., $5.
