Re: “Renauds on Dateline tonight

When will we take a common sense approach to America's violence? I hear excusses like, we need more law enforcement and tougher jail sentences. I hear closing schools, forcing students to cross gang territory causes violence. I hear racist comments, like minorities are animals and thats what they do. The truth is, America's drug war is to blame. We spends hundreds of billions to lock up, fight and bury people yet we can't keep drugs out of prison. They read the mail, listen to phone calls, have drug dogs, strip searches, cameras, snitches, razor wire, sensors, fences etc...yet anyone who has been to prison will tell you drugs and other contraband are available. When will we realize prohibition is what causes this crime. We fixed the violence in the past. Studies and facts shows we can cut drug use in half by decriminalizing and educating. The money wasted on the drug war could be used to treat addicts, many who only use because they are illegal and the tax revenue we bring in for legal marijuana sales we bring in billions nation wide. We need to take the money from the criminals, legalize marijuana and decriminalize harder drugs. It's no coincidence that pharmacueticals kill 2 times more people then all illegal drugs combined, yet they fight hard to keep these drugs on the black market. I am tired of paying for a war that only leads to more use and violence. There will always be users, why should we lose quality of life by keeping them on the black market? The drug wars promotes corruption, use, crime and violence. It takes health care away, makes America a prison, takes our rights, freedoms and money. Learn from it and stop privatized prisons and pharmacueticals from lying about the real facts. Portugul has much to teach us.
