Just back from a long vacation, I don't feel my usual dislocation. Internet connections were sketchy, but I read the Arkansas Times and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and stayed up with e-mail.

Re: “Reporter's Twitter question leads to leave for Little Rock teacher and a police report

It was an offshoot of the t formation but with quick pulling guards that were faster than fullbacks that could create holes. Emory Ballard was given a lot of credit for the offense as he was the offensive coordinator for Daryl Royal. Get Max to give you my email and I will tell you who this guy is.

Re: “Reporter's Twitter question leads to leave for Little Rock teacher and a police report

Nope, Royal was the first to implement it in college football. As a matter of fact his son played for Royal as a quarterback. This coach was a junior high coach and he had terrible ulcers and declined going to UT when it was implemented. This guy was probably the best athlete from my home town. He would walk to Glen Garten Country Club to caddy and in those days the entire membership would turn out for the Caddy Championship and he beat the other two best caddies, Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson!

Re: “Reporter's Twitter question leads to leave for Little Rock teacher and a police report

Steven, I have missed out on one of lifes greatest lessons! By Junior High I was a catcher on the baseball team and a guard on the football team. I can assure you that by that age I could put a baseball two inches above the corner of second base. Think of all of the fun I could have had knocking a nerds glasses off and possibly breaking them. Throwing at the waistline is simple for a catcher, gosh the damage I could have done! Actually the coach taught us a lesson that day, I want the baseball and football team in the bleachers doing your homework. Drat a life lesson taught to young men. This was the coach who developed the wishbone offense and a coaching legend in Texas. What a great lesson to teach young athletes, god gave you an ability to play a sport but you never get to bully those with substantially less athletic ability than you have.

Re: “Hitting the gun lobby where it hurts: bank accounts

Bank of America is being proactive and you will see most of the other big banks fall in behind them. Here is the reason as they are a public corporation with stock that is in the hands of mom and pop on Main Street and it pays a great dividend. Most importantly the financial sector is having strong performance on Wall Street as rates rise. Heres where it gets interesting, pension funds and endowments take notice of these events. Google the amount in the Harvard Endowment. All of these big investment bodies will allocate a good portion of their portfolio to what they describe as socially responsible. What that means is no tobacco, liquor, guns, war planes etc. Where it gets interesting for any of these banks is at the next annual shareholder meeting one of these Florida kids could pop up in the audience and say that your stock is in a mutual fund that my parents invested in for my college savings and are you tied to Ar15s and the NRA? On that day you will not be able to get out of that falling stock. This is actually a good development as you are strangling the funding source for the NRA.

Re: “The gun debate: It's time to call the roll on suggestions for gun safety

We have all the data on what the Australian government did concerning gun control. There are two professors at the University of Pennsylvania who have studied and written extensively about what Australia has done.

Re: “Friday: The open line and the day's news

Silver Ive done 130 only one time and it was quite by mistake. My German mechanic always told me to blow it out and enter the freeway at 65 or 70 since I only drove my car about 3,000 miles a year. I had a meeting and round of golf in Hot Springs and on my return I punched it and decided to call my five year old to let him know Dad would be home in time for his birthday party. When I looked down and saw 130 mph it was a see you in a couple of minutes pal and lets slow this machine down. That was the day I understood the autobahn and the smoothness of the ride.
