Just back from a long vacation, I don't feel my usual dislocation. Internet connections were sketchy, but I read the Arkansas Times and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and stayed up with e-mail.

Re: “Saturday open line

Happy Birthday Max! I picked my very first Cherokee Purple from my garden last night and ended up with my first BLT of the season. Mighty fine!

Re: “Over the hump open line, plus news

pj - I don't have much expertise in this because my kids were public school kids but I coached baseball with a guy for ten years whose 10, 11 or 12 kids were all home schooled. I don't think in my lifetime I've ever been around a family that was more balanced and I got to coach three or four of their kids and have one or two of the big brothers to help out. Each kid got to choose where they wanted to go to High School and it was Central, Catholic Or the Mount for most of them. A couple of them even played college ball. I've never thought of home schooling to be a threat to public schooling.

Re: “With $45 million at stake, acrimony rises in competing Fayetteville shale lawsuits

SP - I believe the $750,000 is to go to Mr. Snow.

A 45 million dollar settlement and the landowner gets a total of $833.00. Doesn't sound real fair to me.

Re: “Mitch Landrieu on the removal of Confederate tributes in New Orleans

pj - Jazzy used to send me a NOLA email every day since my Dad was from New Orleans and attended Tulane. I do miss my correspondence with her.

Re: “Tony Alamo dies in federal prison

I once broke my cardinal rule of leaving Fayetteville without a full tank of gas heading home to Texas. When I came out of the mountains with a quarter tank of gas I decided to stop at Alamo's gas station in Alma to fill up and use the restroom. I've never been so creeped out in all of my life! From that day on I always left with a full tank and stopped midway in Mccalister Oklahoma to fill up on the way to Fort Worth. Forty one years later I still never stop in Alma.
