Re: “The Weekend Theater

Kathryn Pryor as Rose and John C. Thompson as Herbie add pathos to this funny musical with entertaining choreography. Rose vicariously pursues her dreams of fame through her daughters June (Hannah M. Sawyer) and then, after June withdraws from her mother's dominance, Louise (Kathryn Kellogg). A good story of intra-family conflict, a ratcheting down of aspirations as dreams evaporate, and ambition triumphing over love.

Andy Hall's direction and set design produced good results, James Heppler's lighting design was well-suited for the production. The ensembles of attractive young men and women danced and sang well. To stage a musical with a cast of thirty and such good singing and acting is a major challenge and this great company pulled it off well.

Go see "Gypsy!"
