Max, thank you so much for your kind words about my dad, and for digging this up - I've never seen it before!

For both those who do and do not agree with my dad's choices about his life, I will say what I think he would say.

He was not worried about those who disagreed with him - he would have been happy to sit down and had an intelligent conversation about it. However, just as he would never presume to make choices for others, he didn't allow others to make choices for his life. He did what he thought was right as a man who could not fathom the killing of others, especially under such circumstances. But in no way did he believe that everyone should have done what he did. He was a man of peace and nonviolence, was at peace with his decisions and the consequences of them, and was at peace with the fact that many disagreed -and still do - with what he did.

And, although he was often defined by his choices in 1968, my dad was so much more than that. Thank you all for your comments.
