Re: “Beebe announces prison study

I agree with most comments on here. The "War on Drugs" has not worked. Putting people in jail for having an addiction problem is not the answer. First thing most of the drugs that are brought into this country could be stopped and we all know this. It is totally stupid to think otherwise.
In my very small town of 25,000 people there are lots of drugs, lots of drug establishments ect ect. I got irritated at the Sheriff's Dept I emailed them and ask them why could they not shut down those dumpy, shotty, run down drug houses, that front as a Motel. It's not like the whole darn town, does not know why those motels are open and what they are used for so I know the sheriff's dept and police dept know this too!
My answer to the sheriff was "they must be paying you and your buddies to much". And that has to be the answer. So until our law enforcement stops the drugs from coming into this country, which they are not going too", then our prison's are going to continue to be over crowded.
By the way the reason this means so much to me is I had a son who got busted for a meth lab in his car. He only made enough for him and his girl friend. He got busted and for the next 9 years he was in county jail, drug court crap and the like. Finally drug court said they had had enough of his using. well he has now committed suicide as of last month. He told me Mom I will never go back to prison. He had just spent a year in a facility in Texarkana, AR because he could not stay clean. His charges were not violent, not stealing, not b&E or theft of anykind, no gun problems just addiction problems. But according to the law he was a menace to society. He always kept a job and loved his family. He paid his fines and meet every meeting they sent him too.

Now Mr. BeeBee you tell me should that young man have been in prison to start with Hell no!!! There has to be a better way!!!
