Re: “Toad Suck Buck's is Doing it Right on the River

Kevin - all the fried food including those fries was really good. Shelle was the one that spotted the sign about the rice bran oil. I don't know if that was the secret or not but the fries, catfish, etc. were excellent. But man, that steak was wonderful. From the minute I opened the door of my truck to walk into the place, that smell hit me and I knew that I was in for a carnivorous treat.

Re: “Remember the Mexican breakfast

I would love to hear your thoughts on breakfast/brunch at Brownings in the Heights. You and Kevin need to give it a whirl sometime.

Re: “Food Feedback Friday: a day late edition

Wednesday was a magical day. I ate a Footlong Chili Cheese Dog at 3 Sam's for lunch with a side of Peanut Butter Pie. Later that night I was at the Westover Wednesday and tried a Meatball Waffle from the Waffle Wagon, a yummy pizza from Pizzeria Santa Lucia and some Coconut Curry Ramen with Short Ribs from Southern Salt. So a good day but I think you knew all this.

Re: “Gus's chicken is 'special'

I completely agree with this review. Great chicken and sides but the service is lacking. I have yet to have the chance to try dessert because they never have it. And the wait for our bill has been unbearably long on multiple visits.

Re: “Salty and rude, with a chance of chicken and fish

Very true. Eliella is authentic - don't go looking for cheese dip either. Mexican food made fresh, Mexican beer and a very friendly staff. And it is right next to the Kum & Go at Baseline and Chicot. That Kum & Go (any of them actually) has also been a revelation in this town. A convenience store with decent food choices all day, good coffee and the staff at every location excels in customer service unlike most of their competition in this town.

Re: “Salty and rude, with a chance of chicken and fish

I can't believe that place is still open. I also work in SW LR and have for going on 17 years now. I tried Sharks with a co-worker 4 or 5 years ago - the service was terrible then but worse was the size of the roaches I saw behind the counter after I had already placed and paid for my order. It is a real shame - so many people live and work in that part of town but the number of good places to eat has dwindled. We often find ourselves driving all the way downtown or out to Bryant at lunchtime. The stretch along Geyer Springs where Sharks is located once hosted a Schlotzky's, a Mazzio's, a Pizza Hut, a Backyard Burger (where Sharks is now), a Dixie Cafe. All gone. Most recently there was a great place called the Rice House in an old Captain D's at Geyer and Baseline. It is also gone. There are still highlights - Gino's Full Belly Deli, Eleiella's, Sim's, HB's come to mind but the choices have certainly dwindled with the years.
