Re: “Daily Show ridicules John Boozman on climate change

@Olphart - The law you quote pertains to state (and local) offices in Louisiana. The US Constitution governs the US House of Representatives and there is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that prohibits a felon from becoming a member of Congress. (Which makes more sense that it should.)

Re: “Man dies after gunfire exchange with Benton police in Interstate 30 chase

Look again, Max. I believe that is a police car with the bullet-riddled windshield.

Re: “Driggs gets $468,000 for radios. Yes, Driggs

That's a crazy amount of money. However, we need to know what they are buying with the money. It could very well include mobile repeaters (which can cost five figures for one unit) or other infrastructural elements. With that said, it's not uncommon for modern radios to cost SEVERAL thousand dollars EACH. I'm not saying it's right. Just saying that it's so.

Is that much federal money better spent elsewhere in the state? Are there towns and cities where you can get more bang for the buck? Certainly. But those places either didn't ask or didn't show the need that Driggs, Ark. did. As the kids used to say, "don't hate the player -- hate the game."

Re: “City demands security measures at Forest Place apartments

The fire code gives a good level of power to the "Authority Having Jurisdiction," which is the city fire department. I'm not sure about the security cameras, but municipal officials most certainly can demand a fire watch be performed. Although the Dem-Gazette story said that a fire watch wasn't common, that's not true. It's very common when a large building's fire alarm system is going to be out of service for maintenance or repairs.

Re: “'If it's got tits, you got problems': Maynard mayor in police dispute

(1) How was Connie Cline allowed to work at the police department if her husband, Lonnie Cline, was the police chief?

(2) Is the police chief in charge of firing police officers? If so, that would mean Lonnie Cline fired Connie Cline. We might need to check the divorce records soon.

Re: “Campus shooting in Texas UPDATE

I don't buy into the "we need more guns" mantra of the NRA and their ilk. But how do we legislate these tragedies from happening? Unless we ban guns AND then go through every city, town & village with metal detectors & x-ray machines to get the hidden ones, we're not going to solve the problem with more anti-gun laws. The problem in most of these situations is the person doing the shooting -- not what they're doing the shooting with.

Re: “North Little Rock police endorse Steele for mayor

In a perfect world, police and firefighters would probably live in the cities where they work. However, these men and women risk their lives and their livelihood to protect the citizenry and maintain order. I don't think you can ask for much more commitment than that from a person.
