Re: “McDaniel continues sex campaign

I would like to comment on this as well. The problem is the internet has become real world for so people especially children and the law of the land should apply to the internet as well. If there was a sex trafficking ring going on at McDonald's, the McDonald's would be held accountable too. Why is that not true of the internet? The first amendment argument is a copout to justify evil. Craig's List for example had a Terms of Service that they did not abide by. If they did not intend on obeying their own rules they never should have had them to begin with. The same thing applies with Backpage and other companies as well. If you say you are going to do something then do it. The problem comes down to companies aren't going to conform because they make a profit off of people's misery. Businesses have a responsibility to protect consumers and some of these internet companies don't care.

I saw that the webcompany Topix was mentioned. That is a good example. They don't abide by their own TOS at all and the AG's have went after them in the past yet they continue to ignore what they agreed to. That is what happens when you don't moderate your forums or require registration. You have got to have a standard and if people are being legitimately harmed and it is indisputable that sex trafficking causes harm to others, there needs to be some liability of the company. On some of these social networks people have committed suicide, lost their job, or even been forced to move and little is done about it. That is a major problem and one that needs to be fixed. I think I can say pretty safely that our forefathers when framing the Constitution would be in agreeance companies like Backpage abuse what is meant by freedom.
