Re: “Washington County: the Purge begins?

The fewer government employees, the better! If someone lives off tax plunder, I don't give a shit if they got notice before getting canned. A "grants administrator," a "public utilities coordinator," and a "planning director!" I can tell they are useless tax-suckers even by the job titles. Why do you care about these losers, Richard S. Drake?

Re: “The Guns of Heaven

You forgot a major category of gun owners, Richard - hunters. Most gun people are self-defenders (concerned with crime) or hunters. There are also a few preppers (who want to live off-grid) and militia types. In a way, I'm kind of glad that armed people make progressive statists like you nervous, Richard. It may make you less aggressive in your pursuit of government thuggery.

Re: “Will it take a “Face in the Crowd” moment to finally stop Donald Trump?

Thanks for the link to "Your Arkansas Traveler." Great short story! It reminded me of the movies "WUSA" and "Network," but also of Mark Twain's ironic "Bad Little Boy" stories.

Re: “Who created the Trump supporters? Talk Radio, Fox News and Sarah Palin

I think it is very funny. There was Pat Paulsen, that pig the Yuppies ran, and today Donald Trump as the satire of politics candidate. As HLM said, how can you NOT laugh at Americans?

That one was darn good! Well done, Richard.

Re: ““Where is the love you said was mine, all mine . . .” The GOP and its sudden need for emotional reassurance

Great Jed Clampit interview and songs! OTOH you know how I loathe your petty factional political prattle columns. Dem or Rep bashing is too easy, and boring. And can be turned around so easily. Do you really prefer the proven warmonger Hitlery, who never met a US invasion she didn't like, and loves NSA spying, to a Clit Eastwood clone? (Spelling intentional.) One thing is guaranteed: Whoever gets elected will suck. I say: Don't endorse war and rulership and oppression by voting. As George Carlin said, you can do the same thing by staying home instead of going to the polls, and there when you get finished masterbating you'll have a little something to show for it.

Re: “1998: Stonewalling
-Washington County withdraws employment protection for gays

I guess I didn't make my position clear. There is a clear moral difference between government requiring its agents to be non-discriminatory, and government forcing private people or entities to be non-discriminatory. It is clearly a violation of freedom of association to initiate force against private citizens, or groups of such.

For internal government business, as in your county clerk example, freedom of association is not an issue. The county should exercise its freedom and fire his ass. I don't think police force would generally be necessary for this. So the answer to your question is: No, police violence should not be used to force a county clerk to register a black; the clerk should simply be fired and replaced by someone who can do the job.
