Re: “The LR mayor candidates on the big ballot issues

Baker's confused when he says "I also don't think minimum wage requirements belong in our state constitution."

Minimum wage is an voter initiated act and not a voter initiated change to the constitution. I don't know why he would say that unless he thought we were changing the constitution.

I align with Sabin although I still waiver on voting for gambling should it pass court challenges.

Re: “Affidavit released in Dallas cop's shooting of Harding graduate

He said Jean had a red doormat outside his apartment door. "In fact, to ensure no one mistook his apartment the way this officer is claiming in this case, he went out and bought the biggest, brightest red rug and placed it right there at his doorstep," Merritt said (Lee Merritt, who is also representing the family)…

Re: “Affidavit released in Dallas cop's shooting of Harding graduate

Geez, he ignored her verbal commands, eh? In his apartment. When he could probably only see a silhouette from the light behind her.

So, how much time before you start shooting, Amber Oakley? You didn't mention how long you gave him to respond? How was he going to know that you were truly a cop? And, what did you say precisely? Why was that not included in the affidavit?

Couldn't have stepped outside or turned on the lights?

As commented, I'm seeing reports it was a 15 hour shift she just ended. Some culpability upon the policies of the department perhaps? Not like there was a riot or anything that night? She could have easily made a stupid mistake with her gun at hour 13 of the 15 hour shift.

Re: “Harding graduate killed by Dallas police officer in wrong apartment

That sucks.

It's a pretty nice complex.…

You know, apartment complexes don't give very good visual cues that a person might be at the wrong building or wrong hallway and wrong door. Often, unless a resident has put something out by their entrance, once you enter the hallway, it all looks the same.

If I still lived in an apartment, I might put a sticker or something by the door knob or bolt. Or cover my door with a poster. That would certainly be a visual trigger to someone else that they might be at the wrong door and to do a double check. As a bonus, door decorations or welcome mats help residents' guests know they're in the right place better than a building number and door number.

Like, if you don't see the Wizard of Oz welcome mat, you're not in the right place and should make a call or double check the building number and door.…

Re: “Suit develops over Jeremy Hutchinson's legal work, or lack of same

Would we have to get another voter initiated act to get them to add a few higher checkboxes beyond the one for $12,500?

How about another checkbox for $50K, another for $100K, another for $500K, and a last for a million?

It couldn't be that hard to add those to the financial interest statement, could it?

Shoot, we could stop at $500K and keep it to three additional boxes. I mean, if they require thousands of Arkansans to jump through work disclosure hoops to keep their health insurance, maybe they could be more transparent on who they're getting their money from. You know, maybe to help avoid fraud and corruption.

And if they have a law firm like Hutchinson does, probably need a list of clients and how much they give him. Again, if our legislators like Bawlinger and Hutchinson have to make people disclose how much they work to keep health insurance, then we need to know who is getting money from the state and turning around and supporting any one of those benevolent legislators or other office holders of ours.
