THURSDAY 8/7

The Gettys, who recently won the Times' readers' poll for best band, headline at Cajun's Wharf, 9 p.m., $5. Seven-string guitar whiz Ted Ludwig opens the night with a scaled-down show at the Capital Bar and Grill, before playing with his trio at the Afterthought with vocal support from Mary Kai, 8 p.m., $5. At Electric Cowboy, hundreds gather to belt out karaoke hits with the Chuxter, 9 p.m., free. Market Street Cinema screens “Fighting Goliath: Texas Coal Wars” at 7 p.m. for free. “Summer Like It Hot!” Red Octopus Theater's latest sketch show, plays at Easy Street Piano Bar, 8 p.m., $10. It continues Friday and Saturday. At the Loony Bin, Steve McGrew tells jokes, 8 p.m., $6. He'll be here all weekend.

 

FRIDAY 8/8

Popular Austin country singer Kevin Fowler returns to Sticky Fingerz, 9 p.m, $10. The Greener Side is a new local act filled with longtime vets of the scene — Nick Devlin (guitar and vocals), Brian Nahlen (guitar and vocals), Mike Nelson (bass) and Jimmy Powell (drums and vocals). Look for covers ranging from the Beatles to Radiohead as the band headlines at Cajun's, 9 p.m., $5. Tonya Leeks, who sings and plays the saxophone and the flute, brings her band to the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $7. Wildwood hosts a benefit for its musical director, Stratsmir Pavlov, featuring Kristina Marinova-Pavlov, Bryan LaRue, Kiril Laskarov (co-concertmaster of the ASO), Tawanna Campbell and more, 8 p.m., $25. Local band Hat Trick makes its debut at Cornerstone, 9 p.m, $5. Rockers Big Stack perform at West End, 9 p.m., $5.

 

SATURDAY 8/9

Old-time folk rockers the Damn Bullets headline at White Water with the Flip Off Pirates, 9 p.m., $5. Christian pop stalwart Stephen Curtis Chapman plays the Timberwood Amphitheater in Magic Springs, 8 p.m., $45.99 (park admission). At Discovery, Michael Shane and Balance are in the club while the Sleepy Genius holds it down in the lobby, midnight, $10. Local metal act Drop Dead Syndicate headlines at Juanita's with Cradlescythe, 9:30 p.m., $7. The Joe Pitts Band, which serves as Cornerstone's house blues band, plays roadhouse blues, 9 p.m., $5. Vocalist Ramona Smith gets piano help from Carl Mouton at the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $7. Party band Mr. Meaner headlines at Cajun's, 9 p.m., $5.
