As always, the Ted Ludwig Jazz Trio stirs up New Orleans-style jazz at the Afterthought, 8 p.m., $5. The Nasty Abbott's Robert Abbott hosts an open mic night at Counterpoint, 9 p.m., free. Benefiting student instrument provider “Play It Again, Arkansas,” Hornucopia 2007 features Leavenworth, the Rockets, Beowulf, Bryan Frazier and Action Figures. It'll also mark the release of the CD “Lost Souls Volume 1: Arkansas Garage and Pyschedelic Rock 'n' Roll 1965-1971,” at Juanita's, 8 p.m., $15. Experimental jazz-rock act Energy D, from Memphis, provides the soundtrack to Sticky Fingerz annual art party, 8 p.m., free. At Cajun's, Third Degree explores varied rock-related genres, 9 p.m., $5.

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra presents its hugely popular “Yuletide Spectacular” at Robinson Center Music Hall, 8 p.m., $16-$70 (also 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday). Local actor and musician Jason Thompson does stand-up comedy at Easy Street Piano Bar with Rick Hobby, 9 p.m., $5. Vocalist Ramona Smith and pianist Carl Mouton are at the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $7. At Cornerstone, local act Riverboat Crime celebrates the release of its new CD with a concert, 9 p.m., $5. Local rockers Superlow play at Cajun's Wharf, 9 p.m., $5. From Chicago, rising reggae star Indika headlines at Revolution with U-Roy, Bunny Jackson and DJ Ras Levi, 9 p.m., $12 adv./$15 d.o.s. Jam-rockers Starroy perform at Sticky Fingerz with the Natural State, 9 p.m., $5. The Village hosts “Oh Night Devine,” featuring Bethany and Merlon Devine, with Chris Rudley and Ms. Buddafli, 7:30 p.m., $10. Cover band favorites the Gettys are at Counterpoint, 11 p.m., $5.


From noon until 3 p.m., White Water Tavern will host “Breakfast, Books & Booze,” a benefit for Tree of Knowledge books, a local distributor that specializes in independently published zines and comics. WWT chef Seth Baldy is cooking up a large breakfast (with vegan options) and the bar will have mimosas and Bloody Marys. Later, at Sticky Fingerz, local dance-focused cover band Tragikly White performs, 9:30 p.m., $5. At Vino's, local alt-rappers Mad Trucker and Jampire perform, 8:30 p.m., $5. Saxophonist Gerald Johnson headlines at the Afterthought, 9 p.m., $6-$7.
