Re: “Pulaski Tech board restates support for Ellibee

Eminently Reasonable and Frankly Speaking are wrong. There are not two legitimate complaints in two years. The complaint from the previous year was not borne out by calls to other students in the class, which, by the way, something was done without notifying Mr. Roe. To prove a hostile learning environment one must show a pattern.

Furthermore, in the case of the second complaint against Mr. Roe, in a fourteen year career at PTC, the only part in the dismissal documents that proves true is the use of the "F" word and the anal sex comment. It is clear from the context that the question was theoretical and not meant to inquire about sexual proclivities of the student. Therefore, the other statements in the dismissal documents, which are not true, seem to have been intentionally misrepresented in an effort to create the appearance of a hostile learning environment. Without them, there is not a pattern big enough to show a hostile learning environment.

As a side note, Chair of the Board of Trustees quoted in the piece, Ronald Dedman, is wrong about the one statement about anal sex not having any appropriate context. And that is one reason for due process, so that fellow teachers who know what that context might be have a chance to see if it is there or not. Dedman is probably being misadvised by the AG's office about how a hostile learning environment charge is established. He probably does not realize that the other, disproven, statements in the dismissal papers were necessary fabrications to make up the charge.

Academic freedom is not sophistry. Neither is due process.
