Re: “Walmart on the defensive

Crystal Bridges represents the only time any Walton has valued American labor for what it's actually worth.

Alice Walton did absolutely nothing for her money. Left to her own devices she would just be a drunk in a ditch, most likely with the corpses of innocents surrounding her.

I guess we can thank Alice for raiding the collections of down-on-their luck art museums and returning the plunder to Bentonville. Usually when the rich start thinking about their legacy their rein is almost over. Lots of buildings have 'Carnegie' in their name, but there's nary a bit of Carnegie steel to be found these days.

Re: “Rogers City Attorney Ben Lipscomb won't be charged for flashing badge at Miranda Lambert concert

eLwood, in the fatal police shooting in Rogers the woman didn't have a gun, but she did have a knife. Also the officers had tried to use a Taser on her but were unsuccessful. The couple of steps she took towards them were actually a bounding run. You can watch the video here:…

It's funny that Mayor Hines is worried about "public scrutiny, distrust, and embarrassment" in Rogers. This is the same city where the meth-dealing stepson of the former mayor was on city payroll, a police lieutenant videotaped himself trying use a stun gun on a cow but only ended up shocking himself, and up until about 10 years ago unwanted animals were disposed of by drowning them. Now it seems the only bad thing happening is rampant drug use at city hall. If I worked with these people I'd be looking for some drugs too.

Re: “KNWA: Developments on Rogers City Attorney Ben Lipscomb

Lipscomb is claiming a homestead tax credit on a property outside of Rogers which by law must be the person's "principal place of residence". Rogers' ordinance requires the city attorney to "be a resident of the city."

Lipscomb also owns a house within Rogers city limits (no homestead tax credit claimed) and this is where his voting registration traces back to. However, someone else is assessing personal property at this residence leading me to believe Lipscomb is renting the house to them. The Arkansas SoS website says "You must register to vote wherever you actually live or reside. Owning property or a business in a county does not constitute residency there."

So Lipscomb is either lying on his voting registration or lying on his tax bill though being a lawyer I'm sure he can argue for a week over the definition of "reside". If the attorney of Rogers doesn't meet the eligibility requirements of the office how can he prosecute all the misdemeanor offenses for the city? Could this lead to all his previous convictions being appealed?

The mayor threw Lipscomb under the bus today basically saying he would have already fired him if he had the power (though that didn't stop him with the city treasurer). Lipscomb's goose is cooked. The only questions remaining are whether Mayor Hines is going down too and how much this is going to cost Rogers taxpayers...I'm guessing yes and millions, boo yah!!…

Re: “KNWA: Developments on Rogers City Attorney Ben Lipscomb

Firing the Roger's treasurer actually cost the city $630,000.……

Don't watch the videos, they'll just make you mad.

Re: “News update: E-mails on Imboden graduation controversy, more

While the discussion about Sloan-Hendrix and the Huddlestons has been interesting it's obvious none of us are going to change the opinions we entered with so I'm bowing out. The shelf life for this topic expires Friday anyway.

See you in the other threads.

Re: “News update: E-mails on Imboden graduation controversy, more

It's clear now that those school board members that had concerns about Bryant Huddleston speaking were 100% correct. Regardless of what he was going to say, Huddleston was always going to be a distraction on a night that is supposed to be about the graduates.

I'm sure other Sloan-Hendrix alumni have gone on to successful careers and have valuable wisdom to share with new graduates. Thanks to the shitstorm the Huddleston's kicked up and the resulting policy of not having outside speakers at future graduations we'll never know. I hope it was worth it.
