The Weekend Theater opens its production of "Gypsy," the Steven Sondheim musical based on the memoirs of famed striptease Gypsy Rose Lee, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday through July 10, $16-$20. Egypt Central, Madam Adam, Abused Romance and Candlelight Red offer a night of dark modern alternative rock at Juanita's, 9 p.m., $8 adv., $10 d.o.s. San Antonio's Pop Pistol and Fayetteville pop-punkers Dreamfast roll into Maxine's, 8 p.m., $5 adv., $7 d.o.s. The Salty Dogs get down with their Bakersfield-style country at the White Water Tavern, 10 p.m., $5. Thomas East tickles the ivories at Sonny Williams' Steak Room, 7 p.m. June 17 and 18. Ahead of some out-of-town dates later this month, The Elise Davis Band brings its catchy, sturdy folk rock to the stage of the White Water Tavern, 10 p.m., $5. Anyone in the mood for some moody punk rock should check out Embrace the Crash at Flying Saucer, 9 p.m. Those afflicted with '80s Hits Nostalgia Syndrome (8-HNS) might find relief via the slick covers of Members Only at Stickyz, 9:30 p.m., $5. Shannon Boshears plays blues-inflected rock at Markham Street Grill and Pub, 9 p.m., free.
