Re: “Drastic measures for Little Rock schools

As a parent who thinks that her child can get as good of an education in public school as in private, the LRSD is making me second guess myself. I have a daughter going into the 9th grade which is a very crucial transition period because she is preparing for College. She is leaving a good middle school (PHMS) and is being placed in a school that is not promoting College readiness. I think it is aweful that because of where we live, she is being penalized by being put in a school with high crime, high teenage pregnancy and will not prepare her for a future in College. We live about 1/2 mile from Parkview High School but she has been placed at JA Fair which is about 5 + miles from our home....not fair. I do not understand why we can not get admitted into a school of high performance living so close but there are many who live in NLR and other far away places that get placed there. I had to go through all kinds of red tape to get her placed in PHMS, now I am having to do the same thing to get her into another school that will promote College readiness. There are so many schools that are not performing as they are expected to and someone feels that these children who are not thriving should be thrust in with schools such as JA Fair and Hall turning what could be great schools into mini prison camps and I refuse to sit back and have my daughter be subjected to the craziness. My daughter is in Pre AP classes and should be looking forward to gaining more valuable knowledge to apply to her College journey but instead, she is worried about being bullied and harassed by the not so fortunate students. I will continue to follow the stories to come on the dysfunction of the LRSD and continue to fight on the behalf of the students and parents who can not.
