Re: “Why State Representative Nate Bell should resign

I'm a Bostonian and was stunned at the callousness of Rep. Bell's comment (and non-apology) at a time when we needed the country's support and compassion, not derision. That this came from an elected official makes it even more repugnant. I'm disgusted that Rep. Bell used my city and our tragedy as a political punchline. Maybe we don't share similar world views or political beliefs, but we're all still Americans. We're human beings. Are we really all that much different from each other?

I believe in Rep. Bell's right to his opinion, and to say whatever he thinks. But I also believe in my right to contribute to his opponent's campaign, when the time comes. (And I won't be the only Bostonian opening my checkbook for that.)

Re: “Open line: Nate Bell's Boston comments earn criticism from colleagues and web and calls to resign

Actually, GrizzLee, Southie's changed quite a bit since Whitey's hey day. But you're spot on with Roxbury. I'd throw Mattapan and Dorchester in there too.

Bostonian here. First off, guns are NOT ILLEGAL in Massachusetts and never were. Get that. I don't know who made that "truth" but it's flat-out wrong. My husband owns a gun and yes, it's registered. Secondly. I know many people like to think that we were cowering in our homes and that's why we stayed inside. WRONG. Maybe if you knew anything about Boston you'd know that the city is famous for one way streets and labyrinthine twist of streets. It is not an easy city to get around in sometimes, and it also gets congested easily with traffic. People stayed inside so as to let SWAT teams, PD and FBI DO THEIR JOBS AND STAY OUT OF THE WAY. We can be arrogant about some things, but not so arrogant that we think we know better than the FBI. If you had your way I'm sure that Moroccan teenager "outed" by the New York Post would be dead by now, shot up by vigilantes. And shame on you for using our tragedy to score political points. If you really want to help us, then donate blood to the Red Cross.

Lastly, surprised that none of you have caught the real Robin Hood Hill murderers. What are you doing on message boards? Hunt 'em down!
