I agree that electric vehicles do not currently pay for the road tax that is included in the gas tax. I also agree that all cars should pay their fair share. The tax should be based on miles driven as well as weight of the vehicle and its the ability to tow. Obviously a sub-compact car that weighs almost nothing will cause less road damage than a 1 ton farmer's truck hauling 12 round bails of hay. The tax based on miles and weight would also fix the fuel efficiency issues with the road tax. The road tax should be base more on the damage caused to the roads than how much gasoline it uses.
