Re: “What Asa's Executionpalooza has wrought

And just remember, all this negative publicity could, and high probability it will, get much worse when one of these executions (excuse me, killings) goes terribly wrong. We know the drugs are from dubious sources. Isn't it logical to worry that they have dubious efficacy? Hell, they could be simply stump water for all we know. But let's give 'em a try, says Asa. What possibly could go wrong. Just another shit stain on the already soiled drawers of Arkansas. We keep harkening back to '57, but I seem to remember a few other dark splotches in between. How 'bout when Thomas Murton went on the digging spree at Cummins and exposed to the world that Arkansas could inflict cruel and unsual punishment in a whole variety of ways. Now there's a good example of using the shock of bad PR to accomplish reform. But when someone makes a movie about it (Brubaker), it tends to get indelibly writ large in the worlds memory. Then there was that time in 1980, if you've watched 'Command and Control', that we damn near blew ourselves off the continent. THAT would have been one hell of an attention grabber...probably the final one. Yep, you might say we've written the book on how to show our ass.

Re: “ABC tries to placate operators of gambling machines in Baxter County

No tsall, they just hate someone having any kind of fun their religion prohibits. Don't worry, they'll eventually find a way to further contort their Biblical text to allow it. Or, they'll just use the old Baptist standby...everyone can be a Saturday night sinner, feel a little guilt, and become a Sunday morning repenter. Thus, all is well in the eyes of the "Lord".

Re: “Religious leaders urge halt to executions

Wouldn't it be something if one of these executions blows up like in Oklahoma and the ensuing publicity results in the end of the death penalty in the U.S.
Another notch in the State's belt along with LR '57.

Re: “Legal marijuana creates a real estate bubble

I've got an idea. Let's turn Cummins into a giant grow facility. The prisoners will stay high and docile and since the majority of them are probably there for involvement with drugs they bring experience to the task. AND the state reaps enough $$ to build even more prisons, which it seems want to do.
