A lot of things can be linked to "tradition" but when a human is a responsible and productive member of any society, tradition is stopped when cruelty and immaturity are required parts of the equation.

I guess people like living in the mental void of the Dark Ages. But enlightened and caring humans live in the 21st Century and are replacing cruel traditions with new ones that don't cause harm to innocent beings.

It's strange how these people (I feel safe to guess) will kill to save an innocent unborn child but find no issue with hurting and abusing any other innocent life form.

That's called being a hypocrite.)
