Re: “New DHS compliance and integrity unit to investigate beneficiaries for fraud

Is this effort similar to hunting for voter fraud?

Re: “State releases first results of new school test

What do these or any other scores have to do with state takeover or release? Has the Board or the Department stated criteria for these actions?

Re: “Legislative Council again schedules vote on 'conscience clause' for counselors

Would the explanation or defense of a conscience clause, if that's what it is, be helped by specific examples of circumstances when it's needed and the current code is inadequate?

Re: “Alarm sounded on Highway Commission attendance at Metroplan meeting on wider freeways

A recent story from Des Moines recounts averting an elevated highway through the city years ago in favor of what is now a "a lovely parkway" with a recently opened extension. It's in this week's edition of Cityview at http://www.dmcityview.com/civic-skinny/201…. (The title in the Internet address is misleading due to an adjacent article.)

Re: “Planned Parenthood: more than abortion

Thanks for Leslie's excellent description of PP! CBB might be correct about who will read it, but even some who support it don't know all that PP does and contributes to communities' health. A small point, about "tough decisions"--most men and women who seek PP services, once they learn real facts and options from professionals whose aim is to help rather than shame and control them, quite directly decide what to do for their own (and their families') well-being: They make serious but not such tough decisions, thanks to compassionate and informed staff and volunteers. Opposition is such, nevertheless, that PP must depend on its supporters more and more.

Re: “State Board of Education runs afoul of FOI law

Do the board members not know the rules (and laws) governing their behavior, believe their activity is so trivial that they don't matter, or, as AT has accused them, imperious and dismissive of public policy and their effects for public education?

Re: “Throwing around numbers on charter schools

Another question is, do charter schools with fewer at-risk students compare their performance with private schools like the parochial schools similarly with fewer at-risk students?
