Re: “Yep, state moves to oust union in Pulaski District

The level of disrespect toward me by WLR untorlorable. I will no longer comment on this post. But before I go, I would like to state that I am not a teacher, only a concerned citizen. I have only the best wishes for PCSSD.

WLR, I have not attacked you nor Dr Watson personally or called you names and I think I am owed the same respect. Attack my ideas and posts, but leave the personal attacks off the table.

Re: “Yep, state moves to oust union in Pulaski District

Ok Watson, what do you do to appease the employees whose salaries you've cut? They still have bills to pay. What's going restore parent's confidence in the district so they don't remove their child, thereby further reducing district funds? If the state is going to reduce work days and increase insurance costs, can't they at least leave salaries as is? Give and take, right? Neither of the parties went in wanting to give an inch in negotiations - Do we agree on that point? There had to be some common ground Kimbrell could have found instead of the bulldozer approach. I'm even open to the new Personell action committee IF they leave the salaries for now and come up with a plan over the summer that is equitable and not one sided.

Re: “Yep, state moves to oust union in Pulaski District

WLR its obvious you have been wronged in some way by PACT/PASS. And thats fine to have your opinion. But to be one sided is short sighted. Even I agreed with Dr Watson that the unions deserve some blame. But to lay all of this at the feet of the teachers is a stretch. Do administrators really need those 6 figures salaries at the Central office? Did Maumelle and Sherwood really need schools of that that size that are under capacity and were over budget? At the end of the day, the teachers and students will bear the brunt of bad board leadership and a hatchet job by the state to correct the problem. Kimbrell should have given up a few things and taken a few things. Instead, he gave up nothing. Now, even more $$$ are going to be spent in court arguing over the legality of the PACT/PASS contracts. Neither side wanted to negotiate. That much is true. Neither side wanted to give.
Max is too consumed with the Petrino saga right now to give feedback.

Dr Watson, I'll give you that unions are PART of the problem. But you must give me this- it's not fair to go back and reduce salaries. Work with the salaries you have and find options else where. We can agree to disagree on everything else. PCSSD really needs to be broken up. That's a fact.

Re: “Yep, state moves to oust union in Pulaski District

Those that think what the state did was right are misguided. The real
losers are those that work to educate and take of YOUR children everyday. And they do a fine job. To Waston and WLR, it's fine to have your anti union sentiment, but it wasn't the union that built 2 over priced and under filled schools. THAT is is put the district in distress, not the unions. I'm assuming you went to school and therefore were taught by a teacher. Don't you think they deserve something for putting up with parents like you- those thee complain but do nothing? Don't visit the schools, don't thank the teachers for their hard work. Teachers are with your children more wakin hours than most parents and all you have to say is they got what they deserved? Lay some blame at the school board that bought out three Supt contracts.
I was always taught leadership starts at the top. So of that's the case, why did Dr Guess not cut HIS salary and up his insurance costs? It's easy to cut salaries of those making 30 grand when you are making 180 grand. I just hope the moral of the teachers isn't too badly impacted, because their paychecks will be. I hope they able to budget because of increased insurance. I hope they don't lose any family members because their nerves berevement days were cut. I hope Sr Guess makes the same cuts to his.

Re: “Pulaski District to cut jobs, seek employee givebacks to balance budget

the system failed. the unions plus the school board plus the community.
it seems that everyone wants to blame the unions, but has anyone thought about the two new schools that are under capacity was adding to the financial challenges? everyone wants high quality teachers but are unwilling to pay for them. if you look at our Asian counterparts, there is a high value placed on education. not so much in the US. if you think unions are the problem, then you may want to look in the mirror. have you attended a PCSSD school board meeting? have you run for office as a board member to try and correct the issue? it's easy to point fingers at the unions and board members, but has anyone considered the students? no computers in the classrooms; not enough one on one teaching; lack of parental support.
