Re: “The Thursday night line

Sound Policy, I remember stories of government workers being told to tell people that the voter IDs weren't free. I think this also happened in Tennessee, if I'm not mistaken. And tippytom, I think the equivalent to your story would be if you were a TSA agent telling people they didn't need IDs.

My issue with requiring photo IDs is that they require a fee to obtain. Even free voter IDs surely require showing a birth certificate or other paperwork. And it's not just old folks born in Arizona who may not have them. My husband, after serving in the military, working for the federal government at various times, attaining several advanced degrees, and all the other usual stuff adults do, had to replace his lost birth certificate. From another state. At a cost of $50. Seems akin to a poll tax to me.

Re: “Good product, poor marketing

"The issue is individual liberty." -Drackman

But the issue isn't individual liberty when gay and lesbian individuals want to marry. And it's not about individual liberty when it comes to an individual making her own choices about her own body. Is that correct?

And Gylippus - scarce resources? You're joking, right.

Re: “LR City Board to neighborhood: Your homes are dirt

This is seriously alarming. I can't believe that homeowners in Little Rock aren't concerned about this. Why haven't we started a Chamber of Commerce boycott yet? Hit 'em where it hurts.

Re: “NBC reports on sex abuse of foreign exchange students

I got out of this that the State Department isn't screening host families, so Sue Madison took the matter to the state legislature so the state could have oversight. The article seems to point out the Arkansas angle.

Re: “Police investigate Mount St. Mary complaint UPDATE

Thanks, Runt Rizzardi. By points, do you mean indulgences? I sure could use 'em!

Re: “Police investigate Mount St. Mary complaint UPDATE

November, as far as I'm aware, none of the men you mentioned abused minor children entrusted to their care, nor did their employers cover up their crimes. Comparing individuals to an entire institution doesn't cut it.

My daughter graduated from Mount in 2011. I never heard any gossip along these lines but then I'd had my fill of Catholic politics by then. I didn't participate in school functions unless they directly involved my daughter. I just talked to my daughter and she didn't admit to having heard anything either.

Re: “Library points to March bond election

"...I don't think the Rockefeller Cancer ward is cool even if its all ritzy and has a Steinway because people are being killed in the name of saving them."

I'm not sure what you're talking about here but I won't pursue it since we're talking libraries here.

Actually, the root for library is liber with a short i, meaning book or paper.
The root for liberty is liber with a long i, meaning free. You'll be glad to know it's also the root for liberal.
