Re: “Justice Goodson getting help again from her Italian yachting companion

I guess there is no way to know if that is Mark Henry in the post above, but if it is, then that is a gracious and kind sentiment from a man who has decided to move forward rather than living in the past. I wish more people could be like him. What an example. He sounds like a man who knows how to forgive and live in the light rather than the darkness. And he sounds like he puts his children first and that is the best trait a man can possess.

But I do think when people run for any office, like the chief judge in the highest court in our state that will be deciding issues effecting our citizens for years to come, people do have a right to ask tough questions, and if those questions reveal troubling facts or information, state a negative opinion. Without this process, we never get to the truth.

We live in a society where more than 50% of people get divorced, so it is hard to fault Justice Goodson for getting divorced and remarrying. I would rather her do that then stay in a marriage that was not working. She has a right to be happy. So does Mark Henry and John Goodson. No one would deny any of them that right.

There do seem to be issue about John Goodson's law business and whether he is benefitting from favorable court decisions. Whatever lifestyle the Goodson's lead, it isn't paid for by Justice Goodson's salary. Justice Goodson is human and it would be hard for any judge to not consider whether a decision might affect her spouses business. No one can fault her for being human, but the voters have a right to consider whether she is the best and most impartial judge when everything she does could have an impact on her husband's income.

Although a spouses business shouldn't usually be part of a campaign, the problem is her husband John Goodson has a business that can be positively or negatively affected by Supreme Court decisions. That is neither good or bad. That is just what is going on. That makes John Goodson's business in the Arkansas courts a relevant campaign issue because voters have a right to judge whether their judges will be fair and impartial. Justice Goodson might recuse on a case that Goodson is a lawyer on, but what about cases that Goodson isn't a lawyer on but can affect Goodson's other lawsuits?

Maybe if we could get some transparency on her husband. I think it would be good if the campaign released a list of every case he was involved on in Arkansas and a list of all his legal fees while Justice Goodson has been on the Court. Then people could judge for themselves whether this was something to be concerned about. Just a suggestion.

Justice Goodson is a good politician. I wonder why she is even bothering with the Arkansas court. She should be running for congress or senate where the issue of her husband's legal business is mostly irrelevant.
