Re: “Arkansas's ban of the natural painkiller Kratom has left sufferers and former opiate addicts in the lurch

Kratom has never been schedule I. I looked as though schedule I was imminent, but thanks to 140,000 signatures and the American Kratom Association, it never happened. Arkansas is one of a handful of states that was insane enough to let this happen. (Not the general population but those who vote in ways that make this possible. I have to disagree with the majority of voters there, especially the majority who thought putting Trump in office was a good idea. Now they have Jeff Sessions to deal with as attorney general who leads the DEA. This man is largely responsible for putting Alabama on the map as having the highest rate of incarceration per capita. Now he'll follow suit nationally. This is a huge step backwards!

Re: “Arkansas's ban of the natural painkiller Kratom has left sufferers and former opiate addicts in the lurch

Lisa's story is tragic, and there are thousands of stories out there just like her's. I've seen legislators that are completely ignorant of the impact of their votes. I've seen many that hear these stories prior to voting who just don't care. I suspect many are in the pocket of Pharma. Mostly what I see are legislators who need an "enemy" to ban so they can point to it and remind everyone how productive they have been.

Facts don't lie, but partial truths do. Stories about how this is banned in Thailand are used to justify banning Kratom, but you never hear WHY Kratom was banned in Thailand. It was banned because it was cutting into opium tax revenues, by helping the population get and stay off of opium. You hear about suicides where Kratom was involved, but when you look deeper you find that antidepressants were the real culprit even though doctor prescribed. These medications have "may cause suicidal thoughts" stamped all over them.

This lunacy has got to stop. Too many people are being negatively impacted to the point of disability or even drug overdose. Our system is fundamentally broken. The only way to fix it is to change those responsible for this war with your votes.
