Sometimes those with a little education feel vainly entitled to some status and respect. Some compassion, humility, and patience can go a long way towards cooperation. Short temper and reactionary behavior lead to resentment. One big problem that I have observed is young HR staffers that know only college cannot relate outside their generation but feel, (and I emphasize "feel") that they must weed out non-conforming usually "old" applicants by all means. Merely being afraid of being blamed to be the one who hired "grandpa" is injustice magnified by their "gate-keeper" positional power.
