Re: “If Tom Cotton gets his wish and repeals Obamacare, Eleanor Evans would lose her coverage

Obamacare is not socialism. If it was it would cost less.

Obamacare is essentially the *Republican* plan for health care reform from the 1990s. Patty's concerns about a "free ride" are what the mandatory insurance requirements are for. Everyone signs up or they pay an extra tax which goes to fund health care. So young people who were not paying because they thought they would always be fine will have to pay now - because the fact is that sometimes young people actually do need very expensive medical care and now they'll have coverage (or they'll have at least contributed something via taxes).

It's worth noting that countries that do have nationalised health systems spend *less* money per capita on health care and get better outcomes than the non-nationalised American system. And the parts of the US system that actually are gov't run (the VA and Medicare) do a better job at keeping costs down than the private system.

So while people like Patty worry about the costs of socialised medicine, what they should really be asking is, "why can't private insurance-based health care systems be as efficient and effective as socialised systems?"
