Re: “Podcast: The Internet killed the goldfish edition

Spotify encourages music creators to eat their young, or to eat out of trash cans:

August 11, 2011 at 3:21 PM (PT): "However, the L.A. TIMES reported that Classical and Jazz label MODE RECORDS Founder BRIAN BRANDT posted an essay on NEWMUSICBOX.ORG that cited some SPOTIFY figures from JUNE: 'A big individual seller that month, by composer LUCIANO BERIO, was streamed 1,326 times through SPOTIFY; our income $4.18. So, we earn about 1/3 of a penny per stream. And these meager amounts should be split with the artists and composers.'"

All small labels are affected, not just these genres. Last.fm pays even less. In a creators vs consumers world, everyone ultimately loses when creation has no value.

Much like the state of civics classes.

Re: “ABC plugs Arkansas Delta

Outlier, I went to Petit Jean this spring. I bought some lovely carved stone pendants of rose quartz and fluorite at the Visitors Center. I'm pretty sure Arkansans carve some lovely stone, but these were made in China. :(

Re: “The status of women: still no pay parity

That there are no comments on this after 3 hours speaks for itself.

Re: “Did race cause rape case mistrial?

Max, that was my first thought re: DNA in both cases. Does the mistrial put the Pressly case in jeopardy?

Re: “Voices for Justice

Anyone who advocates for anyone wrongfully convicted might consider their own prejudice, whether religious, racial, gender, or body size, when they convict anyone with "insignificant" friends from "insignificant" families who is accused, blacklisted, libeled, slandered, or harassed by someone in their peer group without considering the other side.

You know who you are.
