Re: “Why State Representative Nate Bell should resign

@ Jim Harington: I'm a liberal Bostonian. Yes, what he said was untrue. During the manhunt I spent the night thinking of my niece who lives only blocks from the Tsarnaev family and who witnessed the second Marathon explosion. My friend who lives one block from the boat in which the younger brother was hiding was thinking of her gratitude to the brave men & women who were doing their best to protect her neighborhood. My sister, an orthopedic nurse at one of Boston's top hospitals, was thinking of her patients and how to help them adapt to their new, leg-less lives. Yes, each of us were praying -- not in fear, but in gratitude for our wonderful city and neighbors and law enforcement officers and medical personnel.

You say, " all Bell did was state a truth that made you uncomfortable". I'm here to say it wasn't true and I'm not uncomfortable. I am honored to live in a fabulous city where I don't feel a need to clutch a weapon. I *am* disappointed that any elected official would think it's appropriate to jab disrespectfully at others. Really? He needed to go there? To what purpose?

When I went to the memorial site on Boylston Street today, I thought of the little boy who was eating an ice cream when he died. I thought of the other two spectators and the officer who died. I was proud of the people who came to pray, to honor and remember all the victims in a respectful, kind manner. I wasn't thinking of guns in any way.

By the way, my rather conservative gun-owning husband and brother (both ex-military) are supporters of background checks and of strong prosecution of weapons offenses.

So, yes, I know firsthand that Bell was wrong. I'm here -- and I'm not cowering. Boston Strong.
