Re: “Travs led by secretive power structure

Time will tell what the real reason for the firings was. It is disheartening that the members of the inner circle of Travs management either have no clue as to what happened or, worse yet, no curiosity as to what happened.

Re: “Crime reports: Downtown robbery and a homicide

I love the River Market restaurants; ate at Flying Fish Monday night with a huge crowd from an event at Robinson. This trend has to be stopped. Maybe some advertising dollars could be diverted to security before the merchants start feeling a downturn.

Re: “J'boro police release handcuffed shooting dashcam video

Reasonable people will eventually know what happened, although there are some who will never let facts get in the way of their preconceived ideas. Admitting no inside knowledge of the situation, it nevertheless seems to me a more reasonable explanation is that the young man shot himself which is not the equivalent of suicide. Initial reports of "suicide" really didn't make much sense. A more plausible explanation to me is that he found the gun in the back seat ((possibly left by a previous arrestee), was trying to get it out of the seat, and it accidentally discharged. I doubt if his mind had come up with a plan once he got a weapon into his hands; perhaps he thought he could shoot his way out of the situation, but that does not seem very rational either. We probably will never know exactly what he was thinking.

Re: “Amazon founder backs same-sex marriage vote

I think this is frequently a situational issue. Although I've never heard of a parent responding to a son or daughter "coming out", as they say, with "Gee, that's absolutely great. I'm so happy for you." perhaps the number of mothers and dads who set their kid's clothes on the curb and tell them to never come back is shrinking.

A gay/lesbian lifestyle raises lots of issues for parents already. Grandkids? Maybe, probably not. Shortened life expectancy? This seems to be a declining issue. I think most parents of gay or lesbian children, no matter how much they hate the lifestyle, still do not want their children discriminated against by the government, the church, or people. This is in part a generational response, too. Twenty-somethings don't seem to have nearly as many issues with this as their parents.

It's not a simple issue. How does a religious person hate gays but still love his brother? I just don't understand how you draw a clear line there somewhere that doesn't bend a little. "Hate sin, love the sinner." Is it that simple?

If you think it's a clear-cut issue with a clear-cut solution, I suspect you've never had to deal with it in your family. It's much easier to discuss in the abstract.

Re: “Nancy Todd says legislature could regulate her casinos

Without even getting to the issue of whether or not casinos would be good or bad for the State or its citizens, what possible reason would Arkansans have for granting a license to a bunch of outside "investors", whether they come from Texas or Missouri? If we're going to do this, let's get Harrah's, Horseshoe, and whoever else is interested to come on in.

Re: “Declaration of an open line

The newspaper would be screaming like crazy if the rights of a single reporter were abused. They would get their tall-building lawyers on the case in a matter of minutes. Yet the same newspaper has no problem with running off signature-gatherers. Absolutely unbelievable and the perfect definition of irony. (Can I get an application to rent a street and keep everbody else off "my" street? What is the fee for that?)

Re: “The Little Rock Airport security lines

Mountaingirl, actually I thought he might be nearing retirement age. Certainly old enough to not cop an attitude. (Sorry, no pun intended.)
