Re: “3 Memphis restaurants every Arkansan should know about

Roadside BBQ (exit of I40 for Hwy 147 to Edmonson/Proctor/Horseshoe Lake) is great. Plus they have Delta-style tamales.

Re: “3 Memphis restaurants every Arkansan should know about

Thanks for the props--as a Memphian coming to LR next Monday & Tuesday (I come about once a month) any places I need to seek out?

Here are a few more Gots To Tries:

*Mexican--Taqueria Camino de Michoacan 3896 Macon. Sure, Las Tortugas gets all the props and it's good, but I get tired of being preached to by the owners about how "autentica" they are because they "don't serve cheese dip". Yeah, bruh, didn't even open my mouth to order yet. Germantown Pkwy is not "autentica" for Mexican; Indian, yes, but I'll get to that some other time. ANYWAY, Michoacan is great. And it's also a panaderia/bakery. It's laid back and they serve breakfast all day. But if you go for lunch or dinner Monday-Saturday, follow up your meal around the corner at...

*Deliciousness--Jerry's Sno Cone 1657 Wells Station Rd. Um, this place rules. I can't even describe it but you can't go wrong. You can't miss it. It's the brightly colored cement block building in the middle of a family-centric 'hood (don't sweat it--no danger) with a line around the block consisting of shirtless black teenagers and Old Delta Money white folks in crisp linen pants. Bizarre and wonderful and totally Memphis.

*Thai--The Emerald 5699 Mt. Moriah. Not the best Thai in the US by far, but the best Thai I've had in the Delta and Mid-South. Seriously good soups.

*Derae--North African/Ethiopian 923 S Highland. Very close to the Univ. of Memphis and no lie, easily as good as any North African/Ethiopian I've had in Oakland, CA or D.C. which hold my gold standard. Friendly service and they serve breakfast too. Very interesting meat selections but you gotta check the days for when they have some of the more interesting selects!

Finally...if you want a BBQ chopped pork sandwich to end all...

*Payne's 1762 Lamar. Go to Cooper-Young and play around for awhile and it's just south of there. Ask anyone at any of the restaurants in Cooper-Young "Hey, where is Payne's?" and they may drop their fork/apron/job and go with you. Seriously the coolest junt for BBQ in town. Never tried anything but the chopped pork sandwich and don't need to. Get the slaw on it and the spicy sauce...a must.

Much love to the folks above mentioning DeJaVu and Buon Cibo. GREAT spots! I got more but that will get you started. Please let me know where I should make sure to eat come Monday afternoon!
