GOLFER clearly doesn't know much about faculty schedules. Many teach at night at my university or online. In the case of an online class a lot of the work can be done in the evening, too, and then you are "on the clock" at 6pm or 10pm that day, not 9am. And most work on weekends to do research and grading. There is some autonomy in the schedule like in many professional jobs. You get it all done no matter the time. If someone would rather review a curriculum change form at 11pm rather than 11am what's it to you? It gets done by the committee meeting time either way. The grading gets done before the class whether it's done at 6am or 3pm. I know some early risers who get a lot done before normal business hours even start.
